Academic Learning Advisors Profiles

Karen Naude

Karen has an Honours degree in English, a Master’s degree in Education, and a CELTA from the University of Auckland. She is very interested in the brain and thinking. Karen is a keen gardener, badminton player and is very allergic to lion saliva.  She loves helping students with their writing.

Sabina Rehman

Sabina is an experienced academic learning advisor who can help students in assignments, writing and other learning needs from foundation courses to advanced level programmes. She has a particular interest in ESOL, literacy, numeracy, education and science subjects. Sabina has an extensive teaching and mentoring experience, is fluent in three other languages apart from English, and aptly understands cultural needs of international students. Sabina is a PhD in English from University of Auckland and has a postgraduate diploma in English Language Teaching as well as a qualification in Adult Education and Training.

Availability: Monday - Thursday 9am. to 3pm. (Ōtara)

Heather Reid (Maths)

Heather is an Academic Learning Advisor available for student appointments part time. She has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, a Graduate Diploma in Business (Finance) and Graduate Diploma in Secondary Teaching (Mathematics). Heather has worked as an analyst in a wide variety of industries including Electricity, Software and Insurance as well as teaching in the Education sector.  In more recent years she has lectured part time in mathematics at the New Zealand Maritime School, at the MIT City Campus.    Heather enjoys being able to help students with mathematics and mathematical problems solving.

Kavita Thube

Kavita Thube

Kavita has been providing academic learning support for several years. She has supported students in their educational journey by advising them on academic writing for essays and reports, editing skills, presentation skills, study skills, ESOL skills, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, basic computer skills and information literacy. She empowers students towards self-directed learning. She has a Masters degree and a Certificate in Adult Education.

Availability: Monday - Friday 9:30am to 4:30pm.
