Borrowing basics

  • A current MIT ID card is also your library card and needs to be produced when borrowing items.
  • Borrow items at the Lending Desks of our three libraries or the self-issue machine at MIT Manukau Library. At the Maritime Library, borrow items from reception when the library is not staffed.
  • Return items to a returns slot or the after hours return slot at our Ōtara and Manukau branches. At the Maritime Library, please return items directly to a librarian or at reception.
  • Return High Demand books to the Lending Desks.
  • Login to My Library Record to check or renew your borrowed items.
  • Items may be recalled by others. Check your email or text messages to avoid overdue fines.

You are responsible for:

  • Items borrowed on your ID card.
  • Returning or renewing items by their due date.
  • Replacement charges for lost or damaged items and associated administration charges if invoiced.
  • Fines for overdue items that have been recalled. Recalled items are subject to overdue fines of $3 per day up to a maximum of $30.
  • Failure to pay fines and other charges will prevent re-enrolment or graduation.

Requesting items

By using Search Rapua you can find and recall items that are on loan to another student or request an item from another campus. We will email or text you to notify you when the book is available to collect. The book will be held for you for three days.

Interlibrary loans

Borrow or request books and articles from other libraries in New Zealand using the interloan service.  All currently enrolled Manukau Institute of Technology students and staff can use the interloan service for study and research purposes.  Visit our interlibrary loan page for more information.
