What is copyright? 

Find out what you can legally copy or re-use under the Copyright Act. All published books, newspapers, journals, and Internet content (including YouTube videos) fall under copyright law.

MIT pays a license with Copyright Licensing New Zealand to allow you to copy:
•  up to 10% or one chapter of a book, whichever is greater (you cannot copy a whole book)
•  one article, or part of one article, from a periodical publication, or additional articles from the same periodical publication if they are on the same subject.

To avoid copyright issues? 

  • Get permission from the owner of the information e.g. for company or organisation logos
  • Search for re-usable images and information
  • Download books, videos, newspaper and journal articles from our library databases
